FAQ

What is an adjustment?

An adjustment is the actual chiropractic treatment that creates movement of the joints, either of the vertebral column or of the extremities (wrist, shoulder, ankle, knee).

What is the “popping” sound that I hear with the adjustment?

The “popping” sound is actually air being released in the area where the joints are being moved.

How often do I have to have chiropractic treatment?

As often as is necessary for your specific condition. The ultimate goal would be to receive chiropractic treatment to prevent future problems and to maintain a pain-free and healthy lifestyle.

Why would I need chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care is focused on removing interference to the nervous system. Most people seek chiropractic care when they are experiencing some type of pain. At that point, the nervous system has been irritated for some time and the treatment required is more intense. Many patients benefit greatly by following and individualized care plan and periodic chiropractic checkups.

What can I do to prevent the symptoms from coming back?

In addition to chiropractic care, it is important to take care of the muscles that surround and support the spine.  Proper stretching and strengthening exercise are wonderful for maintaining a healthy spine and preventing future problems.

How long will I need chiropractic care?

Each patient is different with regards to the type and the length of their condition. Neglected or long-standing problems may require ongoing care to restore and maintain good spinal health. You wouldn’t neglect having your teeth cleaned 2x/year as recommended by your dentist, would you? Healing takes time and remember a healthy spine is one that is free of nerve interference!

Don’t accept pain and discomfort as normal.

As Dr. Scharf says, keep your spine in line and you’ll be fine!
